Runs Around Perth
Whether you are just starting out or you are a seasoned athlete, there are so many events around Perth to get involved in and today I'm focusing on running.
Did you know that every Saturday morning there is a free timed 5km run or walk right here in WA? They are hosted at multiple locations including:

- Lake Joondalup
- Maylands Peninsula
- Mt Clarence
- Woodbridge Riverside
Parkrun is free but participants must register online in advance. This is a once off registration that will allow you to participate in any other parkrun anywhere else in the world. Click the location for more details.
Women's Classic Fun Run in Perth, Western Australia
Sunday June 26th
The Perth Women's Classic is a 5km and 10km fun run which is open to both men and women, but only women are eligible for place awards and draw prizes.
This community event is conducted by the West Australian Marathon Club with the proceeds being donated to Breast Cancer Care WA. Participants have the option of a 5km walk or run. This option has been designed for those who want to be part of the great community event but feel 10km is too far. It is ideally suited for walkers or the very young with their parents.
Sunday July 17th
The Armadale Half Marathon includes 5km and 10km races in Armadale, Western Australia.
All events follow a 5km loop course, starting and finishing at the Champion Lakes Regatta Centre. The 5km is 1 lap; 10km is 2 laps; and 21km half marathon is 4 laps.
Swan River Run in Perth
Sunday July 24th
Perth's most scenic fun run is back: the WA Today Swan River Run, presented by Westpac. The scenic 14km fun run starts on Victoria Avenue in the Perth CBD before travelling down Mounts Bay Road, up in to Kings Park and back down to the river before finishing at UWA.
The shorter 5km course starts on Victoria Avenue travelling down Mounts Bay Road along the beautiful Swan River, giving first time runners and families a scenic route with both courses chock-full of music and entertainment along the way.
In a further boost for participants, organisers will be providing free online training plans and free community training runs with qualified trainers and coaches to assist with everyone's preparation.
City to Surf in Perth
Sunday August 28th
The Chevron City to Surf Perth has a 42km marathon, 21km half marathon, 12km, 4km fun run and walk events and a 4km wheelchair event.
It is run annually on the last Sunday in August and attracts over 40,000 participants each year. The event has a festival atmosphere at both the start in Perth City and even more so at the finish at City Beach overlooking the sparkling the Indian Ocean.
This event is part of the WA City to Surf series. Finish all five events in the series in one year and be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Fifth Leg Cape to Cape Track Run in Margaret River
Sunday September 18th
The Fifth Leg Cape to Cape Track Run by the Margaret River Trail Runners has four running events: a 43.5km marathon/ultra; 21.2km half marathon; 13.5km; and 5th Leg Marathon Relay.
These events are run along the stunning Cape to Cape Track, all finishing at Gracetown in Cowaramup Bay with a lunch. Numbers are limited, and runners are advised to register early.
The Cape to Cape track runs along the coast, diving down onto picturesque beaches, and then climbing onto the ridge. The run is of moderate difficulty, though not over technical or hilly, and all runners will find a distance that suits them.
Sunday October 9th
The Fremantle Festival of Running has a 21km half marathon and 10km & 5km fun run/walk events, starting and finishing at South Beach in Fremantle, Western Australia.
This community event is conducted by the West Australian Marathon Club with the proceeds being donated to Diabetes WA.
By just finishing any event and attending the awards ceremony, you are eligible to win some fantastic draw prizes. Your attendance is necessary to qualify.
Brooks Rottnest Marathon and Fun Run
Sunday October 23rd
The Brooks Rottnest Marathon and Fun Run has a full 42.2km marathon along with 5km and 10km fun runs on Rottnest Island in Western Australia.
The start of the Brooks Rottnest Marathon is heralded by the wail of bagpipes at 6.00am on the Sunday morning. The bagpipes have become a traditional part of the marathon and can be heard throughout the marathon at Armstrong Hill.
True Grit near Perth
Saturday and Sunday October 29th & 30th
True Grit is the first Australian designed military style obstacle course, with courses designed to test your mental resolve and stamina. The Perth event is in Newlands.
The emphasis is on tackling obstacles, not running a marathon. The courses are designed over 10 to 12km with over 30 obstacles per event. The founders of True Grit have combined experience in the Australian Army over 33 years, with the last 20 years in Special Forces.
Colour Run at Langley Park
Sunday November 6th
The Color Run™ 5k at Langley Park in Perth is a unique experience focused less on speed and more on crazy color fun with friends and family.
Wear a white shirt and get covered in colour as you run and at the end. By the end, you will look like you fell into a Willy Wonka... tie dyed... vat of colored goodness.
Deep Water Point Run
Sunday November 13th
The Deepwater Point Fun Run is a 7.5km and 15km run Mt Pleasant, Perth, Western Australia organised by the West Australian Marathon Club (WAMC).
It is open to non club members as well as members. The 15km event is 2 laps of the 7.5km course. The 15km event is part of the WAMC Championship Series.
City Beach Run
Sunday December 4th
The City Beach run is a 4km and 8km race at City Beach in Perth, Western Australia, organised by the West Australian Marathon Club (WAMC).
The event follows a 4km circuit with the 8km runners going around twice, and is open to both members and non-members. The 8km race is part of the WAMC Championship Series.
